Hehe, yea I was wondering myself how ponies could handle archery, the crystal ponies proved there was archery canonically (which made me yay) but the hooves thing is more a liberty than logical - I decided it made more sense that Shooting Star used her wings, not to say it makes a 'lot' of sense or anything.
I suppose using wings as hands makes as much sense as hooves do. Although after seeing sharydow's [link] comment above, I'm perfectly okay with the idea that hooves are just as good as hands for ponies: [link] (3:30 mark).
In my own pony fanfic only unicorns can use them 'right' - while everyone else have to hold the drawstring in their mouth and 'kick' to draw the bow. This was how it was sort of done in ancient china as well at one point
